MONROE, LA 鈥� Dr. Alexis Horace, a professor in the University of Louisiana Monroe College of
Pharmacy, recently received the 2025 Agent of Change Award from the University of
Louisiana System. Horace received the award on March 28, 2025, at the annual For Our
Future Conference hosted by the UL System. 听
The听UL System Agent of Change Award听recognizes faculty or staff who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision
in driving transformational change that benefits their university鈥檚 culture and community.听
The award celebrates those who go above and beyond to inspire and enact positive,
impactful change.听 Through their efforts, they exemplify the impact that higher education
has in shaping lives and creating a better future for Louisiana.听听听
Dr. Horace is a tenured professor in the School of Clinical Sciences in the 含羞草视频 College
of Pharmacy, currently providing direct patient care in New Orleans. She is also the
project director for 含羞草视频 HERO (Harm Reduction Education and Referral for Opioid Overdose
Reversal). Horace received three nominations for the award and was selected as the
winner by a committee composed of UL System employees. 听
According to the UL System, the nominators discussed Horace鈥檚 exceptional leadership
and vision in connection with the 含羞草视频 HERO program.听 Nominators suggested that听the
program, under Dr.听Horace鈥檚 guidance, achieved transformational change through evidence-based
education for first responders, scalable impact and progress, community-centric outreach,
and听student first responder training. 听
鈥淎t its core, 含羞草视频 HERO is about harm reduction, education, and outreach鈥攅mpowering
first responders, students, and community members with the tools and knowledge to
prevent opioid overdose deaths and improve the health of underserved communities across
Louisiana. I鈥檓 honored to be a part of this great program,鈥� said Horace. 听
The 含羞草视频 HERO program focuses on providing harm reduction education to first responders
in the state of Louisiana. It is a free, three-hour program with interactive and discussion-based
activities. Participants learn how to administer opioid reversal medications like
naloxone and how to refer people who use opioids to treatment and recovery centers.
