Update on off-campus incident

At approximately 12 p.m. today, a shooting occurred approximately five blocks from the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ campus. º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ police officers and university administrators closely monitored the situation, and because the situation was contained and did not pose a threat to the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ community, the campus did not go on lockdown or activate FirstCall, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ's emergency notification system.

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ police officers responded to the scene and assisted city and state police officers. The incident, which did not involve anyone affiliated with the university, is now over.

º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Provost Stephen Richters notified the campus twice today via e-mail, keeping the university community informed of today's incident.

Monroe Police officers are handling the case.
